Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The exterior beadwork is beautifully preserved. Light nail/surface scratches are visible to the interior lining, consistent with careful previous use. Please refer to photographs.

A beautiful vintage Japanese handbag showcasing the remarkable craftsmanship of traditional Japanese glass bead embroidery.

The bag is densely covered with thousands of tiny burgundy glass seed beads, arranged in flowing, concentric patterns that give the surface wonderful texture and movement. Stylized flowers and foliage are worked in shades of deep red, muted blue, antique gold and green, with elongated bugle beads adding further dimension to the botanical design.

One particularly lovely feature is that the two sides have different floral compositions. One side is relatively restrained with a single central flower, while the reverse is richly decorated with a larger garden-like arrangement of flowers and foliage. This makes the bag visually interesting from every angle.

The beadwork continues onto the double handles and around the upper edges, creating an exceptionally complete and beautifully finished design. Two warm amber-tone clasp elements provide an elegant contrast to the rich wine-red palette.

Inside, the handbag is finished with a luxurious red silk lining and practical interior pockets. The lining remains beautifully preserved overall, with some light nail/surface scratches from previous use, as shown in the photographs.

At approximately 23 cm wide and 31 cm high including the handles, it is a graceful yet practical size—ideal as an evening bag or as an unusual statement accessory with contemporary tailoring, a simple dress or traditional Japanese clothing.

A wonderful example of vintage Japanese beadwork and a highly decorative piece that is as beautiful displayed as it is worn.
